Within this week’s topic of augmented reality (AR) I looked into how AR could be used for education and I specifically wanted to find ways to bring it into the elementary classroom. I took a look at the Merge website and specifically looked at their EDU tab.

I would be interested in looking in to getting the Merge cube for my future classroom! I think it would be an engaging way to teach students about science and STEM in a completely different way. There is a free trial but I am not sure how much it costs after the trial expires. Ideally this would be something the whole school might be interested in using and could be installed on the schools ipads or chromebooks.

After learning about AR this week I decided to visit Infusion XR Edutainment Arcade in Victoria with my roommates. We went on one of the egg rides where you sit in an egg shaped pod and wear VR goggles and the pod moves, and blows air out of these tubes that hit your legs to make it a 4D experience.

This was my first time experiencing this sort of AR and it was kind of cool. I was expecting the graphics to be more clear though. I think it would be fun to do a group AR game there. They book up fast on weekends so you have to call in advance.

Response to Gracen’s blog post

I took a look at my pod member Gracen’s post from this week and I am glad that I am not the only one who is not a master at using my MAC. Gracen is also in education and has been in nearly all of my classes. Luckily for us we already had WordPress blogs to add to in this course. I am looking forward to reading more of her posts.
